Sleep: 12-36 months
Sleep continues to become more organized. “Babies grow out of needing their morning nap between 12 and 18 months.” They then settle into a longer afternoon nap and better, longer night sleep. They are often more ready to wean off their nighttime feedings if they are still waking to feed since they are starting to naturally consolidate their night sleep.
Toddlers grow out of their afternoon nap around age 3. This can be a slow process where toddlers alternate days where they need to nap with days where they can comfortably make it until bedtime. They often fall asleep in the car on the way home from child-care if they haven’t napped that day. If they take their afternoon nap too late in the day this can interfere with falling asleep at bedtime. This can be a hard transition for everyone.
