Session 4: Main Ideas
We use the Reflective Practice and Planning Worksheet [link here] to think more deeply about the caregiver and child we are working with. This helps us see the world through each person’s eyes and tailor the program to make it most meaningful for the caregiver and child.
Being flexible and adapting the PFR curriculum to meet the needs of the dyad is a core aspect of model fidelity.
As you do the 10-week PFR program with your training family, here is what to expect.
- You will spend time reflecting on each family session prior to meeting with your PFR trainer, including: What did I learn or notice about the caregiver-child relationship? What is the caregiver needing from me? What is the child needing from the caregiver? What thoughts and feelings did I have during the visit? Did anything come up in the session that I wasn’t sure how to handle or want guidance on (a caregiver question or comment, handout concepts, recording or watching the video, etc.)
- You will look at the handouts and outline for the upcoming week and think about how to tailor the content to your training family to make it meaningful and personalized.
- If you took a caregiver-child video, you will watch video and begin planning your feedback.
- If you took a self-video, you will watch your video and reflect on the following prompts:
For week 4: What felt easy or good as you watched?, Was there anything that you felt unsure about regarding what to say or how to handle?, What do you need for continued support?
For week 8: answer the week 4 prompts, AND, what did you notice about yourself and/or your cues, what did you notice about the caregiver and/or their cues?

You have completed session 4. It is time to meet with your PFR Trainer.
You will meet via Zoom with your PFR Trainer for your online meeting. Your PFR Trainer will send you an email or calendar invite with the Zoom link prior to your scheduled meeting time.
