Feeding

Parents and babies start their feeding relationship right from birth.  In the first 3 years, parents and children share approximately 5000 meals together!  These multiple back-and-forth interactions are chances for the baby to feel seen and understood and to be in a “dance of conversation” with their parent.   Feeding interactions provide a unique opportunity for shared pleasure and connection. The feeding relationship plays an early and central role in cognitive and language development.

This is a short, narrated video clip of a mother who is breastfeeding her baby. This video shows how feeding is so much more than just eating and is an important opportunity for connection and social interaction.
