DESCRIPTION:June 18\, 2025\n9 – 10:30am Pacific Time (Seattle)\nvia Zoom\nBARNARD CENTER FREE LECTURE SERIES\nThis presentation and reflective conversation seek to create a space for open dialogue about the mental health workforce crisis and the contributing factors. Together we will explore relational possibilities to addressing contributors to the crisis while also improving engagement and service outcomes for children and families. A systemic pivot is long overdue that moves the broader conversation\, administration\, and service provision in conjunction with and beyond funding. \n \nNucha Isarowong\, PhD\, LICSW\, IMH-E® is Director of the Advanced Clinical Training (ACT) Program at the Barnard Center for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health at the University of Washington. In this current role\, he works to diversify and expand the infant and early childhood mental health clinical and consultation workforce in the state of Washington by centering relationships\, experiences of people and communities targeted for oppression\, and principles of diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging in program administration\, curriculum\, and delivery. As a part of this work\, he engages in efforts towards systems change by influencing multi-level systems integration of diversity-informed practice principles in the IECMH field. Nucha is a ZERO TO THREE Fellow (2012-2013) and serves as a board member for Profectum Foundation. He is a facilitator and member of the Curriculum Committee for the Diversity-Informed Tenets for Work with Infants\, Children and Families (Tenets) Initiative. \n \nREGISTER HERE

DESCRIPTION:May 7\, 2025\n10:00 – 11:15am Pacific Time (Seattle)\nvia Zoom\nBARNARD CENTER FREE LECTURE SERIES\nHuman adults rely heavily on their social partners to meet the challenges of the world. This dependency people have on their social network highlights the need to initiate and nurture strong relationships. One critical challenge for fostering healthy relationships is determining who would be a good (or bad) social partner. Adults have the advantage of drawing upon their lifetime of experience and knowledge to inform their judgments of others\, but a person’s motivation to begin mapping their own social network may emerge in infancy. I will discuss two related lines of work that provide evidence that infants use their 3rd-party observations of imitation and helping to understand who is likely to act as a good social partner in the future. \nBill Pepe\, 4th-year PhD candidate at the University of California\, San Diego (UCSD)\, works with advisor Dr. Lindsey Powell in the Experimental Psychology department. His research program focuses primarily on early human concepts of social relationships and morality: examining how infants and children use their observations of peoples’ social relationships to guide their expectations and reasoning about prosocial and antisocial behavior. \nREGISTER HERE

She trained at Rush Children’s Hospital for general pediatrics and did her pediatric pulmonary fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She was part of the inaugural class of Sleep Medicine Board Certified physicians\, as sleep medicine was not a formal subspecialty until 2007.  She joined the faculty at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2005 and is currently a Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Sleep Medicine\, as well as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Dentistry. Outside of work\, she is a soccer/dance mom to her 3 kids and is addicted to closing the rings on her apple watch!
