SUMMARY:Introduction to Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy (MABT) - July 23\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:July 23\, 2024\n9:00 am – 10:30 am Pacific Time (Seattle)\nvia Zoom\nBARNARD CENTER FREE LECTURE SERIES\nThis webinar will introduce the evidence-based mind-body intervention called Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy (MABT)\, including experiential exercises based on MABT processes.  MABT is designed to teach clients how to develop and deepen interoceptive awareness\, i.e. awareness of internal body sensations\, to promote self-care and emotion regulation.  Dr. Cynthia Price developed MABT within the context of her clinical practice as a somatic therapist\, and has been researching the effectiveness of this approach over the past 20 years. Her research is focused on the benefits of MABT in the treatment of substance use disorder\, chronic pain\, and for recovery from sexual trauma. This webinar will be focused on what clients/patients learn through engaging in MABT\, the related increases in health and well-being\, and the interoceptive skills that are integrated into patients’ lives post-intervention.  We will also discuss the implications of this research for clinical care and nursing practice\, as well as for clinician self-care to increase self-regulation. \nCynthia Price\, PhD MA LMT is a Research Professor at the University of Washington and Director of the non-profit Center for Mindful Body Awareness. Her clinical and research expertise is focused on interoceptive awareness and its role in health and well-being. She developed Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy (MABT)\, a mindfulness-based approach designed to facilitate interoceptive awareness and related skills for self-care and emotion regulation. Dr. Price’s research is aimed at the study of MABT within community care\, particularly for those in recovery from trauma\, chemical dependency\, chronic pain or other life stressors. She co-authored two scales to measure interoceptive awareness: the Scale of Body Connection (SBC) and the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). Trainings for clinicians and therapists interested in learning how to integrative interoceptive awareness skills in their practice – for their own self-care and for the care of their clients – are available through the Center.  Cynthia is committed to increasing access to integrative health care services\, particularly for underserved populations\, through her research\, teaching\, and service. \nREGISTER HERE
