Description

Become reliable in the Parent-Child Interaction Teaching Scale!

The Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) Teaching Scale is a valid and reliable assessment for measuring parent-child interaction with an extensive body of research across disciplines. This scale has been used in hundreds of research studies and published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.

This self-study course includes:

  • Teaching manual and scale pad
  • Teaching kit with canvas bag
  • A welcome packet with how to get started instructions and self-study training checklist
  • Access to instructional videos
  • A 30 minute consultation with a PCI Instructor

In this course you will receive the following:

Access to over 4 hours of instructional videos to help you achieve reliability in the Teaching Scale. There are 5 videos total. Once you purchase the course you will have access to the videos for 3 months so that you can watch and practice at your own pace. You will be guided on how to understand infant and child behavior, and dyadic interaction by closely observing caregiver and infant use of emotion, eye contact, and non-verbal body language in teaching situations. The Teaching Scale is used with a caregiver and child up to three years of age. You will have plenty of time to view dyadic interactions reflecting each coding element on the scale as well as practice scoring teaching parent-child interactions. After you have learned the Teaching Scale, you will observe and score five teaching dyads to become certified in the use of the Teaching Scale.

• Video One—Introduces how the scales were developed and provides an overview of what each scale measures. You will learn about all six subscales—four caregiver subscales and two infant/toddler subscales—and understand key concepts such as contingency.
• Video Two—Explains how infants communicate nonverbally through behaviors called cues. You will see examples of all the cues included in the scales.
• Video Three—Covers all six subscales of the Teaching Scale. You will see multiple examples of each item and have opportunities to practice observing them.
• Video Four—Provides four Teaching Scale practice videos that allow you to continue building your skills in preparation for achieving feeding reliability.
• Video Five—Includes five dyads you will observe and score for your Teaching Scale reliability assessment.
