Description

Become reliable in the Parent-Child Interaction Feeding Scale!

Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) is about careful observation.  More than anything else, it’s about watching the nonverbal communication of the child and parent and understanding how they interact together.  Becoming a careful observer is a critical skill for assessment.

This self-study course includes:

  • Feeding manual and scale pad
  • A welcome packet with how to get started instructions and self-study training checklist
  • Access to instructional videos
  • A 30 minute consultation with a PCI instructor

In this course you will receive the following:

Access to over 4.5 hours of instructional videos to help you achieve reliability in the scales. There are 5 videos total. Once you purchase the course you will have access to the videos for 3 months, so that you can watch and practice at your own pace. You will be guided on how to understand infant and child behavior, and dyadic interaction by closely observing caregiver and infant use of emotion, eye contact, and non-verbal body language in teaching situations. The Feeding Scale is used with a caregiver and child up to one year of age. You will have plenty of time to view dyadic interactions reflecting each coding element on the scale as well as practice scoring feeding parent-child interactions. After you have learned the Feeding Scale, you will observe and score five teaching dyads to become certified in the use of the Feeding Scale.

• Video One—Introduces how the scales were developed and provides an overview of what each scale measures. You will learn about all six subscales—four caregiver subscales and two infant/toddler subscales—and understand key concepts such as contingency.
• Video Two—Explains how infants communicate nonverbally through behaviors called cues. You will see examples of all the cues included in the scales.
• Video Three—Covers all six subscales of the Feeding Scale. You will see multiple examples of each item and have opportunities to practice observing them.
• Video Four—Provides four Feeding Scale practice videos that allow you to continue building your skills in preparation for achieving feeding reliability.
• Video Five—Includes five dyads you will observe and score for your Feeding Scale reliability assessment.
